One of the things that I wanted to do at the start of the lockdown was to move some of my workshops online.
But this meant entering into the digital world, social media, software, platforms…….aaaghhh!
Did I manage to do it………………did I heck!
I have just returned from an interesting journey into cyberspace and if anything, it actually made me want to spend even more time in nature.
Now I’m certainly no expert when it comes to IT, in fact, I have avoided technology for ages thinking that I wouldn’t really need it for my type of work. But with everything moving online, I just couldn’t put it off any longer.
Even though my sessions and workshops are in person, I had to learn how to share my knowledge and tools remotely, and during the lockdown, I decided that this is what I was going to throw myself into.
It was totally out of my comfort zone and this brought up a tsunami of resistance for me.
Gosh, it was actually quite funny to watch my own behaviour around this. I could feel my whole energy shifting at the very thought of having to learn a subject in which I had zero interest in.
I threw myself into research, training, software – you name it! At first, I was having a proper techno tantrum because I had no idea what I was doing.
Every day I thought, ‘right Tracey, come on let’s do this’, but the nearer I got to my laptop, the more I started to resemble a cat near a bath!!!
It was time to take a breath and surrender.
I had to stop looking at this as a mammoth mountain that I was wanted to get to the top of and just concentrate on at least starting the climb.
Once I approached it with wonder, like a child in an endlessly stocked toy shop, I actually found it quite interesting. Every time I did a little here and there, it was a small step and in essence, a small win.
So, what have I learned about the digital world?
It's huge, fascinating, fast-moving and it still ain't my thang! But hey, even though I am still climbing this marketing mountain and learning at my own pace, my laptop has become a very good friend.
Did you take on new learning in lockdown?
What did it stir up for you?
